Our Strategic Priorities

Freeman Center Founding Board Member Preston C. Tisdale speaks at Brown University's 250+ Anniversary in 2014.

1

Acquire monies to pay current staff, hire additional staff, and invest in/conduct public programs.

2

Lay the groundwork for an independent, sustainable,
African American cultural institution & historical research center of national significance.

3

Develop a business & sustainability plan for the Center that allows it to generate at least one-third of its income from sources other than donations and grants.

4

Completely restore the Mary & Eliza Freeman Houses.

5

Address flooding in Bridgeport’s South End.

6

Identify and expand the strategic institutional partnerships needed for the Freeman Center to thrive.

7

Develop and maintain a robust website of important historical information for research, educators, and the public that includes an organizational timeline.

8

Develop and/or deepen key community relationships in Bridgeport’s South End.

9

Develop and launch a downtown Center to provide programs, exhibits & services during the 2 years when the houses are being restored and the 5+ years when the permanent historic site is being planned and built.
